Guidelines for Teachers
We can accommodate groups of up to 30 people per tour guide, if your group size is larger than this simply let us know and we will arrange additional guides. A minimum of one supervising adult per 10 children is required. The tour starts outside the prison gates and begins by introducing the students to the history of the site. The tour then heads inside the walls of the The Prison which includes the hanging yard, the graveyard, the women’s wing, the cells, Redemption Garden, the suicide wing, solitary confinement, the cages and the exercise yard. Along the way, the tour guide will tell you stories about prison life and the history of The Prison. Tours, and stories can be tailored to suit your needs. We understand that some of the subject matter such as the hanging yard and murder stories is sensitive and can adjust the route and narration of the tour to meet your requirements.
